Inks Chris Bought in 2015

IMG_0423_0011

I asked my friend Chris what inks she had purchased in 2015.  I was tickled, and relieved, that not only did she buy the same number of inks as I did, but she enjoyed some of the same brands. Here is her report.

I decided I had plenty of ink when 2015 began. Enough ink to last me another two lifetimes. I made a resolution that I wouldn’t buy more ink until I emptied at least one bottle. That resolution was never going to work. I’ve never completely emptied a bottle of ink in forty years, so why would I think I might do that now?

Looking Forward to 2016

Boy, 2015 turned out to be a fun year.  What’s ahead for 2016?

I’ve got an amazing envelope chock full of samples from Konrad & Agnieszka at KWZ Ink.  I’ve swabbed them all.  They all look great, and  I’m super excited to use and report on these inks.  We’ve got iron gall and regular.  Some blues, reds and greens and interesting browns.  They all look fantastic.

A few people have asked for a post about the pen that’s pictured in the blog’s banner, a Montblanc Agatha Christie.  I can do that!  It’s just a killer pen.  No pun intended.

I’ve also got some Kaweco inks to review.  I’ve really enjoyed using these excellent inks.  I’d like to see more attention paid to small companies like KWZ and Kaweco that are putting out really great products at a great price.

I’ve got some more fun nib grinds to show off.  One of my favorite things is to try something new.  These are pretty great.

What I Bought in 2015: Pens

I like to do an end-of-the-year “accounting” of the pens I bought, not to create the illusion that there’s any business-like veneer over my acquisitiveness, but more like an assessment, to see if I can learn anything.

This year was just fantastic.  I got great pens this year.  I did totally blow the budget in the last week.  But I’m still thrilled.

Pen of the Day: Kaweco Classic Sport

Kaweco Classic Sport with broad Architect’s nib.  Today’s Pen of the Day is really a disguised Ink of the Day.  This is one of my oft-used Kaweco Classic Sport demonstrator pens, now with an Architect’s nib.

The ink is Caran d’Ache Infra Red, courtesy of an early Black Friday sale.  One of the blog’s readers turned me on to this ink.  It’s a great color.

Pen of the Day: Montblanc 146

Montblanc 146 with broad nib.  Admittedly, I am not the world’s biggest user of broad nibs, but my favorites are those made by Montblanc.  Not than just wider, the Montblanc broad nib is stubbish, with a thinner cross-stroke and wider down-stroke.

I have it inked with Kaweco Ruby Red, a color I like a lot.

Pen of the Day: Kaweco Dia2

Kaweco Dia2 with extra-fine nib.  This is another pen I have been using on loan from Kaweco.  And it’s another Kaweco pen with an excellent extra-fine nib.

The Dia2 I’m using comes in chrome trim, which I love, but gold-colored trim is also available.  I really like some of the design flourishes, like the knurled trim on both ends, and the shape of the clip.

This ink is Kaweco Royal Blue, which of course appeals strongly to the blue fan in me.
