About

My name is Laura, and I’ve been using fountain pens for, oh, it feels like forever.

I think the first new fountain pen I owned was a black Waterman Laureat that family friends gave me when I was in high school.  But the first fountain pen I bought for myself, and the pen I used most for years, was a red Lamy Safari with black clip that I bought in my college bookstore.  I believe that was the fall of 1982.  I could lament that I didn’t buy the Savannah Green Safari instead, now worth hundreds.  However, the bookstore didn’t stock that Savannah Green, and my brother lost or sold my original Safari years ago anyway.  I still own the Laureat, though.

I have since added other pens, and now have a small hoard, too many by anyone’s standards, although I keep being tempted to add others.  I suppose if you’re reading this, you are the same way.

  1. I’ve always enjoyed writing with my plastic Lamy fountain pen, but I got a shiny Pilot Falcon for Christmas … I’m learning how to take care of it properly: feed it well, clean it well, use it well. That’s how I found your blog 🙂

So not quite as lucky to have a hoard, but there’s time!
