Montblanc BMW Ink: The Ultimate Writing Machine?

Montblanc BMW ink bottle and swabs

I got a neat package yesterday including this ink: Montblanc’s BMW ink.

It appears to be part of the Montblanc for BMW collection, celebrating BMW’s 7 Series cars. I say “appears” because that link only describes a lot of leather goods and a Platinum LeGrand rollerball and fountain pen. Unmentioned is any ink.

It’s almost as if they considered ink minor, or insignificant. How … strange.

These encounters with normal, well-adjusted people can really make a person wonder.

Luckily I have a friend who agrees with me that ink is the most important thing ever, who sent me a bottle. And it’s inked up already. Because, blue.

It’s a nice blue, with nice shading.  I’ll certainly post more about it, and do a review, in the days to come. Because, blue.

Fountain Pen Style: The Official Preppy Handbook

If you are a certain (excellent) age, and also a woman, you’ll remember The Official Preppy Handbook, a well-thumbed tartan paperback owned by you and your friends. You’ll remember wearing Shetland sweaters, chinos and boat shoes. You’ll remember pink and green everything.

Why not rock that look with fountain pen ink?  Let’s go retro. Let’s go fun. Let’s go little-whales-on-shorts here.

For me, it’s J. Herbin Vert Pré and Callifolio Andrinople.

Brownie Points: KWZ Brown-Pink

KWZ Brown-Pink ink writing sample

Yes!  KWZ Brown-Pink is being all brown for me on Tomoe River paper. I am very excited.

Is that unreasonable?  I’ve basically been thinking of it as a purple ink, in disguise. So seeing the browner aspect is really cool.

I think inks may have broken my brain. Or, possibly, the fact that I ate only healthy food all day yesterday. Cold turkey has got me on the run?  But I don’t care. Just give me some truth. I’m loving the brown in Brown-Pink.

KWZ Dark Brown Ink.  I’m just going to do a quick post on KWZ Dark Brown, with a longer review to come. This ink is really interesting to me because it looks black on most papers but can be a very dark brown on some, as you’d expect from the name.

Since January is at its coldest and bleakest just now, I am trying to jazz things up with garnet ink, in honor of the January birth stone.  It’s a little like inky jewelry.  Except so much more frugal.

Last week was Pelikan Edelstein Garnet, a red orange that I thought added a little spice to the wintery weather. Alas, it’s a limited edition ink from 2014 and so not easily available.

So this week I’m trying a second garnet ink, Faber-Castell Garnet Red.

Oh January, you are not the easiest month to love, here in the northern hemisphere.  It’s very cold in Chicago in January, and the hours of daylight are short, which makes this month seem extra long.

So how to make January more fun?  How about jewelry?  Because it turns out that January has a nice birth stone, the garnet.  And I happen to have two garnet inks.  The first is Pelikan Edelstein Garnet.

The Twelfth Day of Holiday Ink: Diamine Night Sky and Diamine Sparkling Shadows

DSC_7019

On this twelfth and last day of Holiday Ink, it’s time for silver and gold together, and a little grown-up shimmer

Diamine Shimmertastic Night Sky is a black with silver particles that looks sleek and sophisticated.

Sparkling Shadows is softer and warmer, a gray with gold particles.

Together, they’ll round out the holiday season and bring us into what I hope is a sparkling New Year for everyone.
