Sailor’s new, North American-special color for the Professional Gear is the Ocean, and it’s an attractive dark teal, a blue-green that’s more green than blue, which I think is elegant and gorgeous, and happily not run-of-the-mill. I love the color.

I think this pen is going to be my goal for the Chicago Pen Show this year since it seems to still be around.
It’s just so pretty!

Thanks again for sharing! My two Music nibs I sent to Mr Richard Binder who made cursive italics of them, But I really love my Naginata togi more and more. Very expressive when you learn how to drive it!

That’s wonderful! In fact, I just used someone’s Naginata togi this weekend — it was wonderful. I owned one once years ago for a short time, but gave up on it. I’ve obviously become a better “driver” as you so aptly put it. ๐

I love the color, but I haven’t seen this in person. Great write up again. I also liked seeing how you mention the normal size of the written line stroke, vs what we see in the photo. I’ve never tried one of their music nibs.

Thank you! I sent this back but I miss it. ๐ Very tempted to add one, albeit with a medium or broad nib. ๐

Thanks for posting this review. I have just ordered the Ocean Pro Gear Slim but I was a little unsure about the colour because I have read that some people have been disappointed with it. Your photos look fab! I spent ages debating which nib to go for because I really like a Sailor broad nib, but I eventually opted for a medium. I also quite fancy the metallic blue slim in a broad, but that will have to wait for another month!

You sound like me! And I say this as a warning. ๐
Also, did you know that the Metallic Blue Slim is the same color as the Stormy Sea 1911?! Isn’t that cool!

I just recently bought the Pro Gear Slim Ocean with a broad nib, and I love mine. I especially like broad nibs, so to me, Sailor’s broad seems a little narrower than I’m used to. But it’s an awesome nib, nonetheless. I really enjoy the slight feedback it has that contributes to that Sailor feel. I’ve only had this pen a very short time, and I already wouldn’t want to be without it. It doesn’t hurt that teal is my favorite color, either!

Totally! I love a Sailor broad nib because, as you say, it’s not as broad as others. If I end up buying another Sailor it will probably be your exact pen: the Ocean with a broad nib.

That colour, with the rhodium plated fittings, really does look gorgeous. A lovely pen!
