Do you like the discontinued and hard-to-find ink Caran d’Ache Caribbean Sea? How about considering Kaweco Paradise Blue for a possible substitute? The two inks are not an exact match, but they are close.

I just got a bottle of Kaweco Paradise Blue after going back and forth on if i actually wanted it for a long time. After I wasn’t able to get the Chicago Pen Show exclusive Lake Michigan Summer (I think that’s what it’s called?), I looked for similar colors, and this seemed close. Do you think these two are close? Or is there something else you think is more similar?

!. I think it is similar to Kaweco Paradise Blue, with Paradise Blue slightly more blue. I’ve still got Lake Michigan Summer inked, and I’ll ink up Paradise Blue in another Safari or Al-Star to compare.
2. Another similar ink is Diamine Steel Blue, with two caveats. First, I’m not sure that Diamine hasn’t tweaked the formula for Steel Blue since I bought mine years ago, because my friend Chris seems to get a different vibe from her Steel Blue. Second, I have to admit that I never really took to Steel Blue. Something puts me off that ink when I use it a lot. (Whereas Paradise Blue and Lake Michigan Summer I liked initially and continue to like.) YMMV.
3. I just saw on Instagram that Papier Plume is making another batch of both Ivy 108 and Lake Michigan Summer, in response to requests. So if you email them, or maybe just check their website, you might be able to actually order it once again. If any of the New Orleans Collection, just re-released, appeal and are still available, I really like those, too. Okay, it may seem “what inks don’t I like” but I’m actually kind of a tough grader. 🙂

I really like Diamine-Steel Blue, and have it. I love the look of that Lake Michigan Summer, and would love to try it one day. Maybe there will be enough demand to bring it into their regular line up. If it is too close to the Steel Blue though, I won’t need it. I think it is more blue than Steel Blue, but I might be wrong about that.

This is the first time I’ve seen this blog entry. I loved it. I have tried Paradise Blue, and I really like that ink a lot. Sadly I never got to try Caribbean Sea, although I know people rave about it. I am glad you did those comparisons. I also love Palm Green, and it does look fairly close to Vibrant Green from Caran d’ Ache. (from the picture) I have both of the Kaweco colors mentioned in cartridges. I did try one of the Caran d’Ache samples though…Infra Red. I was looking for a reddish orange, but it wasn’t quite what I was looking for.
