I never would have bought the Heritage 1912 if I hadn’t walked in my local Boutique one day in 2013 for something else, probably ink. All I can remember is that the Heritage 1912 was new, and they took one with a medium nib out of the display case and made me write with it. Ten minutes later they were running my credit card for one with a broad nib.

The Heritage 1912 nib is smaller in size, because it needs to retract into the barrel before the pen is capped. The nib is a soft and springy writer, and I love using it.

My Heritage 1912 is inked right now with Montblanc Jonathan Swift ink, a soft gray-green that reminds me of the fuzzy catkins of pussy willows. I like almost any gray-green ink, but this is my absolute favorite.
Writing with this combination, I feel very lucky.
Hi there. Nice pen and it works well with the ink. I’m also interested in getting this pen, I’m just not sure whether to get it in an M or a B nib. Does the broad nib lay down too broad a line? How is it when compared to a Pelikan M800 broad or medium? Thanks.

I think Montblanc nib widths are fairly similar to Pelikan nib widths. The Montblanc broad nib is my favorite broad nib because it’s stubbish. I don’t find it too broad, but that probably depends on how you’re using the pen. If you’re looking for a daily writer, or mostly use poor paper, I think a medium nib would be better for everyday use, as a rule. I tend to use a fine nib for everyday, though, and a broad nib when I really want more of a display.
There should be a post on my site comparing all the Montblanc nib widths, actually. If you click on the “Montblanc” tag above you can find it, and if not, just let me know, and I’ll find the link for you. 🙂
