Just in time for holiday shopping, there are three new inks from KWZ Ink: Warsaw Dreaming, Walk Over Vistula and Baltic Memories. A black, a blue and a teal. I had a chance to sample these, and I love the colors.
One slight (okay, huge) problem, though: I reviewed pre-production samples, and I managed to mix up the names of the blue and the teal. The colors in the photos are accurate; however, the names written for the blue and teal inks, in the photos, are not. Confused? Me, too! But this problem has a simple solution: buy both. No, buy all three. You will thank me later.
All three inks are sheeny, in different ways. The teal and blue boast dramatic red sheen, while the black has a blue tint and the sort of sheen that doesn’t show up in a different color, but rather, in an almost slick quality.

Walk Over Vistula is the one that I must try in the future. The other two look good too. I don’t need another black ink. I have trouble sometimes with some super sheeny inks. (Such as Diamine-Majestic Blue and Akkerman-Shocking Blue.) I happen to love teal inks. Thanks for a peek at these beauties. I think I need the Walk Over Vistula. 🙂

Yes, that Diamine ink was troublesome for me, too. I’m not really a sheen seeker, myself, but it makes me happy to see how so many people are really getting into fountain pen inks because of it.
I love how KWZ has given us so many dark, saturated colors that aren’t very high maintenance. And now in response to customer requests they are bringing the sheen. 🙂

They are bringing the sheen, and lovely colors. I haven’t forgotten about water resistance inks. I think they said they were working on that. I can’t wait for that. I think I have 3-4 KWZ inks right now already. I am sure that number is going to increase. They are also to clean out of your pen, I noticed that too. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

So I’ve been playing around with R. Oster Fire & Ice — yes, it was the hot thing years ago; what can I say, I’m always late to the party — and I’ve been pretty disappointed with its performance in most of my pens. Hard starts, flow issues, drying in the nib quickly… Please tell me that Baltic Memories behaves better than that.

Bummer. Can I suggest trying to dilute Fire & Ice with just a little water (or distilled water if you live in an area where the water is bad)? That often helps with flow problems. And sometimes inks that are very saturated are prone to flow problems. You won’t dilute it much, so you won’t notice a difference in color or sheen. It’s worth a shot, anyway.
I tested pre-production samples of the three KWZ inks. My sample of Baltic Memories flowed very well, as all three of these did for me.
However, I didn’t do my full ink review, which has me using them in two different pens over a period of weeks, and really torturing the inks if I can, by leaving the pens to sit unused. (I didn’t do that for Fire & Ice, either.) If I get more of these three KWZ inks, I will. And I hope someday to get more, because I really like them. 🙂

This is most excellent: when I saw them listed at Vanness, I wondered if anyone would do a review. It answered all my questions and caused the fiduciary glands to activate. We’ll see what happens…
