Pelikan M605 White Transparent with medium nib. My new pen and my almost new ink. A winter white pen with a blueish gray ink.
This M605 has palladium trim and a rhodinized nib. The ink has beautiful shading and a quiet, lovely, almost zen-garden, feeling.
The pen barrel is made of transparent clear plastic with translucent white stripes. The stripes are both a fig leaf and a nod to Pelikan traditional design, but except for the stripes, the ink is fully visible in the transparent barrel.
People will have different feelings about that. I’m a demonstrator fan, and I would rush to buy an M605 clear demonstrator pen, should one ever be produced. But many people don’t like Pelikan demonstrators because ink will get trapped in places usually hidden under the section.
This M605 White Transparent is a nice compromise: you only see the ink in the barrel, which will come clean when you flush the pen.
But you do see the ink in the barrel.
And if you really, really love white, that may bother you. If so, a white converter pen is a better idea.
I don’t love white, so I’m good with it.
But you know what I really do love? Look at that photo, at the part of the barrel that’s filled with ink. You can see an oval that looks golden, in the upper part, near the section. That’s the sun, glinting through a tiny bubble where there’s no ink.

I’d really love to hear your impression of Bayou Nightfall! Someone I follow on Instagram said he liked it, too, and I was delighted. I can see people *not* liking it, because it’s so subtle, and that’s fair, too, but I adore its calmness and quiet beauty. It seems like one of those special “only in fountain pens” inks to me.

I’ll definitely let you know how I like it! I love grey inks, so it seems right up my alley. I just have to find the perfect pen for it. I’m looking at my giant pen case that’s stuffed full of pens like “but I have no pens to use!?!?” #penpersonproblems

These are the first photos that make me want to buy the pen! I am so not a white person, but I love the white body of my tortoise. Curious what you think of how this compares with the city series New York pen. I’ve always liked the design, but it doesn’t have the white section or stripes.

I’m not a white person either! But I love this one.
I don’t own the New York, but I’ve seen it often and handled it. I would bet it’s not the same white. The M605 White Transparent definitely has the White Tortoise color white, which is a warmer, creamier white. I am not positive, but I feel like the New York’s white part may be grayer in tint, even slightly blue, but that may be because the pen has those black parts, which make the white seem more gray. Still, the New York feels closer to the Chicago (which I owned briefly) — and those give a darker and heavier impression than this White Transparent.
I myself would rather have one White Transparent than both of the Chicago and New York together. It’s light and elegant. Filled with the gray ink, it makes me think of a Fred and Ginger movie set. 🙂

Thanks for your thoughtful response (since I was/am considering getting one or the other)! I agree, the New York white seems to be grayer. The creamier white and transparency of this one is a definite plus 😉 I can’t wait to see it in person when I visit a brick and mortar store next week.
