J. Herbin 1670 Caroube de Chypre ink bottle

You know what’s really nice? J. Herbin Caroube de Chypre. You know what else is really nice? Pen Chalet. Since Pen Chalet gave me that bottle to review, I’d like to pay it forward to a blog reader.

If you aren’t sure about inks with gold particles, Caroube de Chypre would be a nice one to try, because it’s fairly mellow. And if you already like inks with gold particles, Caroube de Chypre is a nice one to add because it gives a different look. Caroube de Chypre and Emerald of Chivor are my favorites of the 1670 inks, but they are very different.

I ended up liking Caroube de Chypre so much that I expect to put a bottle in my own Pen Chalet shopping cart before the year is up. And that makes me happy, because it’s nice to share something you like.

  5. Caroube is a good coffee brown but despite shaking before use (bottle and pen) it really doesn’t sparkle for me in a Lamy AL broad nib. On the other hand every time I use the Vista loaded with Emerald I nearly swoon: even without that gold glimmer it’s such a lovely rich unusual green. (I’ve got both so this comment is just that, thanks, hope the Caroube finds a good home!)

  6. I was just trying Rouge Hematite that we received as a gift, and we were very amazed with how beautiful it was. Thank you for an opportunity to get another one from 1670 series!

  13. I really like J.Herbin Stormy Grey, and have been wanting to try the other gold inks but i haven’t had the money to do so yet. I also like about all the inks i have tried, especially with a broader nib that makes really nice shading.

  18. I’ve not yet tried a gold fleck ink, but all of the Herbin inks that I’ve tried have been delightful. Would be absolutely thrilled to win this.

  19. I really like Emerald of Chivor and would be interested to see how the Caroube de Chypre compares–Someday I need to get serious about the center-of-cup-of-strong-coffee colored ink quest, perhaps this is a start. –Karl

  21. I have admired J.Herbin inks for a long time, and enjoy greatly all four ones I have (vert olive, ambre de Birmanie, Terre de Feu and gris nuage), but have yet to try out glittering inks. Caroube de Chipre would be a great addition to my little collection.

  22. Caroube de Chypre is the first in this line of J Herbin inks that I am truly interested in trying. I like how subtle the gold appears and the color of the ink as a whole. I enjoyed your experimenting and what you learned from the experiment. Thanks for such an all inclusive look at this ink in your series of blog post about it.
